En la playa en España / On the beach in Spain

A finales de agosto viajamos a España de vacaciones. Aunque ya había estado el año pasado, esta vez fue distinto: un par de días después de llegar nos fuimos a la playa con los abuelos a un sitio en el sur cerca de Málaga.

At the end of August we travelled to Spain on vacation. Although I had been last year, this time it was different: a couple of days after arriving we went to the beach with my grandparents to a place in the South close to Malaga.

Yo iba preparada con el flotador que me había prestado Kay, pero los primeros días el agua me daba un poco de miedo porque tenía olas. La abuela Nieves me compró una barca para poder estar en el mar sin estar en el agua, y poco a poco me fui acostumbrando al vaivén de las olas.

I was all prepared with a puddle jumper that I had borrowed from Kay, but the first few days I was scared because there were waves in the water. Grandma Nieves bought me a inflatable boat to allow me to be on the water without getting in the water, and little by little I got used to the waves’ moves.

Al final, ya no solo no me daba miedo, sino que me gustaba jugar a correr en la orilla delante de las olas y esquivarlas.

In the end, I was not scared anymore, and I even liked to play on the shore running away from the waves and dodging them.

A veces nos tomábamos un respiro de playa y nos íbamos a visitar algún sitio bonito alrededor. Uno de esos días volviendo de Málaga en el tren, papá me dejo la cámara de fotos para que me entretuviera y yo saqué la primera foto de mi vida, lo que les pilló un poco por sorpresa.

Some days we took a break from beach time and we went to visit beautiful places close by. One of those coming back from Malaga by train, daddy let me play with the camera to keep me busy and I took the first picture of my life, something that took them by surprise.

Otro día decidimos quedarnos en la piscina del hotel y mientras todos leían, descansaban o tomaban el sol, me fui a dar una vuelta a jugar con los ascensores. Yo no me enteré de nada, pero cuando volví me encontré a mamá con mala cara y todo el mundo buscándome. Yo no sé por qué montaron tanto lío, pero ya no me dejaron irme sola nunca más.

Another day we decided to stay in the hotel’s swimming pool area and while everyone read, rested or sunbathed, I walked away to play with the elevators. I don’t know what happened but when I came back I found mommy grim-faced and everyone was looking for me. I don’t know why they made such a big deal of it, but they did not allow me to wander away never again.

Al volver a Madrid fuimos a visitar al tío Oswaldo que, como siempre, nos recibió con cosas ricas para comer, y nos reímos mucho con los primos después de cenar. También nos vimos con amigos de papá y mamá y nos dimos un paseo por el Retiro.

When we returned to Madrid we went to visit uncle Oswaldo, who as usual welcomed us with yummy things to eat, and we had a lot of fun with my cousins after dinner. We also met with daddy’s and mommy’s friends and we went for a walk in the Retiro.

Papá y mamá se fueron seis días a Italia, así, sin avisar. No me quisieron decir nada para que no llorara, y no me podían llevar porque dicen que en Italia hay mucho que ver y yo todavía camino despacio. La verdad es que, a juzgar por las fotos que trajeron, sí que hay mucho que ver en Italia, y eso que sólo estuvieron en el norte.

Daddy and mommy went on a trip to Italy for six days, without telling me anything. They did not want to let me know so that I did not cry, and they could not take me with them because they say that there is a lot to see in Italy and I still walk very slowly. Truth be told, based on the pictures they brought back, there is a lot to see in Italy, and that considering that they only went to the North part.

Yo mientras tanto me quedé con los abuelos y aunque me puse un poco mala, nos lo pasamos muy bien. Fuimos de paseo, de compras, e incluso me corté el pelo por primera vez en una peluquería.

Meanwhile I stayed with my grandparents and though I was sick for a couple of days, we had a great time. We went out walking, shopping, and even I had my first haircut in a hairdresser’s.

En estos días me hice muy amiga de Pre. Él no había podido venir a la playa, pero cuando volvimos pasamos mucho tiempo juntos. Cuando salíamos a pasear a Pre le gustaba ponerse al lado de mi cochecito y a la hora de comer, debajo de mi silla para recoger lo que se me caía. Nos llevábamos tan bien que al final yo le dejaba mis juguetes y él me dejaba los suyos.

During these days Pre and I became best friends. He had not been able to come to the beach, but when we returned we spent a lot of time together. When we went out on a stroll Pre liked walking side by side with my stroller, and at meals time, he was always under my chair to pick up anything I dropped. We got along so well that in the end I let he play with my toys and he let me play with his.

Y así, sin darnos cuentas se pasaron los días y tuvimos que volver a casa con estos recuerdos en la maleta. No nos dio tiempo a hacer todas las visitas que nos habría gustado, así que tendremos que regresar pronto.

And like that, almost without noticing, the days went by and we had to come back home with all these memories in the suitcase. We did not have time to visit everyone we would have liked, so we will have to return soon.

Días guau de verano / Guau days of summer

Yo sabía que había guaus de muchas clases. Cuando vamos a pasear por el barrio veo perros grandes, medianos y pequeños, blancos, marrones y negros, peludos y no peludos. Pero un día fuimos al zoo y descubrí que hay muchas más clases de guaus: con cuernos, con trompa, con cuello largo. Vamos, que el mundo está lleno de guaus.

I already knew there are many sorts of guaus. When we go for a walk in the neighbourhood I see dogs of all kinds: large, medium and small, white, brown and black, furry and thin haired. But one day we went to the zoo and I found out that there are many more types: some have horns, some a trunk, some long neck. The world seems to be full of guaus.

Tantos, que un día me encontré uno negro debajo de la cama de mis papás, pero luego me explicaron que eso no era un guau, sino un miau. Al principio eso me pareció muy confuso, pero me enseñaron fotos de otros miaus en un libro y ahora ya sé diferenciar un miau de un guau. El nuestro es una miau se llama Miss Honey y es muy tímida, y ahora me pregunto si todos esos animales del zoo son guaus o no.

So many, that one day I found a black one underneath my parents’ bed, but they later explained to me that it was not a guau, but a miau. In the beginning I thought that was very confusing, but they showed me pictures of other miaus on a book and now I can tell miaus and guaus apart. Our miau’s name is Miss Honey and she is very shy, and now I wonder whether all those animals in the zoo are guaus or not.

La última vez que fuimos a visitar a Cheeyuen, Sching y Kay, saludé a sus miaus correctamente y aunque los miaus se esconden más que los guaus, me entendí bien con ellos. Luego nos fuimos a cenar todos juntos y me lo pasé muy bien jugando con Kay.

Last time we visited Cheeyuen, Sching and Kay, I greeted their miaus correctly and even though miaus hide more than guaus, I got on well with them. Later on we went out for dinner and I had a great time playing with Kay.

Es verano y hace bastante calor, pero nada como lo que pasamos cuando viajamos a Texas. Fuimos a Dallas a visitar al abuelo Javier y pasamos una semana con él y con Charo. Hacía tanto calor que no daban ganas de salir de casa, o del coche: hasta tienen restaurantes que te sirven la comida en el coche para que no te derritas al salir.

It is summertime and it is quite hot, but nothing compared with how hot it is in Texas. We travelled to Dallas to visit Grandpa Javier and we spent there a week with him and Charo. It was so hot that it did not feel like leaving the house, or the car: they even have restaurants that serve the food inside the car so that you don’t melt when you go out.

El abuelo y Charo estaban muy contentos. Creo que se les hacía un poco raro porque no tienen mucha práctica con niños pequeños, pero nos lo pasamos muy bien yendo de compras, a comer, a ver un parque de dinosaurios y a visitar el rancho de JR. A ver si se animan a venir un día a Canadá, para que prueben otro clima.

Grandpa Javier and Charo were very happy. I think they felt a little off because they don’t have a lot of experience with toddlers, but we had a great time going shopping, out for dinner, at a dinosaur park, and visiting JR’s ranch. Let’s see if they decide to come one day to Canada, so that they can taste a different climate.

Hicimos un pequeño viaje por Texas y conocimos Houston y San Antonio: hacía calor en todos los sitios. Mamá quería que me bañara y lo intentó en la piscina, y luego en la playa en Galveston, pero se me había olvidado cómo era y me daba miedo. Cuando regresamos a Toronto y empezamos las clases de natación le cogí el truco y ahora lo difícil es sacarme de la piscina una vez que me meto dentro.

We went on a trip around Texas and visited Houston and San Antonio: it was hot everywhere. Mommy wanted me to take a bath and she tried it in the pool and then on the beach in Galveston, but I had forgotten how it was and it scared me. When we came back to Toronto and I we started this year’s swimming lessons, I got the knack and now it is difficult to get me out of the pool once I’m in it.

La semana pasada fue el cumpleaños de mamá y nos fuimos a dar un paseo en barco. Era una visita a las 1000 islas. Yo ya había montado en un barco (o algo parecido) justo hace un año cuando fuimos a Boston, pero éste era un barco de verdad.

Last week it was mommy’s birthday and we went on a boat trip. It was a visit to 1000 islands. I had already been on a boat (or something similar) last year when we went to Boston, but this was a real one.

Al principio papá y mamá no me dejaban subir a la cubierta pero como querían ver las islas, al final me dejaron y me lo pasé muy bien jugando en el barco y dejando que el aire me diera en la cara.

In the beginning my parents did not let me go up on the deck but because they had to go out to see the islands they ended up letting me and I had a great time playing on the boat and letting the wind blow in my face.

En julio cambié de guardería. Sigo yendo con papá tres días a la semana a la guardería del trabajo, donde ya me han promocionado a la sala de los que no son bebés, pero ahora también voy a Busy Bee, que está al lado de casa, los otros dos días. La verdad es que me lo paso mejor que en la casa de la señora Rose y a mis papás les viene mejor.

In July I changed daycare. I still go with daddy three days a week to the daycare at work, where I have been promoted to the toddler room, but now I also go to Busy Bee, which is close to home, the other two days. The truth is that I have more fun now than in Miss Rose’s home and it is more convenient for my parents.

Así que con tanto cambio en la guardería y con planes de fin de semana, se pasan más rápido los días guau de verano.

This way, with so many changes in daycare and different weekend plans, the guau days of summer just fly by.

Me levanté y anduve / I got up and walked

Hace unas semanas, poco antes de cumplir 17 meses, llegaron los abuelos Nieves y Pablo a visitarnos de vacaciones. Tenían muchas ganas de verme y me trajeron un montón de regalos, algunos de ellos y algunos de mis tíos y amigos de España.

A few weeks ago, soon after I became 17 months old, Grandma Nieves and Grandpa Pablo arrived to visit us during their vacation. They were looking forward to spending time with me and they brought me a bunch of presents, some theirs and some from my uncles, aunts and friends from Spain.

El regalo que más me gustó fue un DVD que se llama cantajuego. Me gusta porque tiene muchas canciones divertidas y se puede jugar con ellas a la vez que se cantan. Tanto lo veo que ya he aprendido como se cambia de la tele al DVD con el mando a distancia.

The present that I liked the most was a DVD called cantajuego (sing and play). I like it because it has many fun songs and you can play at the same time you sing them. I have seen it so much that I have learned how to change the TV input to the DVD with the remote control.

Los abuelos querían que caminara porque ya no están para andar por el suelo jugando conmigo y practicábamos todos los días. Y se me daba tan bien que a los cinco días de llegar les di la sorpresa a todos y cuando papá vino a buscarme a la guardería fui corriendo a recibirle.

Grandpa and Grandma wanted me to walk, because they are not in conditions to spend the day on the floor playing with me and we were practicing all the time. I was so good at it that five days after they arrived I surprised everyone welcoming daddy walking when he came to pick me up at the daycare.

Una vez que se me quitó el miedo me di cuenta de lo que me había perdido y quería andar todo lo que no había andado antes. Ahora voy andando cuando salimos a pasear, cuando vamos al centro comercial, cuando juego, y llego más rápido a todos los sitios.

Once I lost the fear of falling I realized what I had missed and I wanted to walk all the time. Now I walk when we go for a stroll, when we go to the mall, when I play around, and I arrive faster everywhere I go.

Para el fin de semana largo de Semana Santa mamá alquiló una cabaña en el norte, pensando que ya haría bueno y podríamos disfrutar del lago y la naturaleza, pero el invierno estaba aún dando coletazos y al final pasamos más tiempo a cubierto.

Mommy rented a cottage to spend the Good Friday long weekend up north, thinking that weather would be good and we would be able to enjoy the lake and the wild nature, but the winter was still kicking around and we ended up spending most of the time indoors.

Aun así fue muy divertido, porque la cabaña era muy confortable y había un perrito que se llamaba Annie que venía a jugar conmigo todo el rato.

Despite of it we had a lot of fun, because the cottage was very cozy and there was a puppy called Annie who came all the time to play with me.



Ya sé decir más cosas, todas ellas importantes, aunque bastante lejos de la siempre útil “no”. Por ejemplo, “agua”, que he aprendido en español, o “papá”, que vale para decir hola papá, esto es de papá, dónde está papá, quiero ir con papá, y más, “bye” (adiós), que he aprendido en inglés, y ahora es mi palabra preferida, “tibi”, que me la he inventado yo y sirve para decir toma y dame, según la ocasión, “go” (vamos), que funciona mejor cuando se dice muchas veces: go, go, go, go, go, o “guau”, que es como llamo a los perros.

I have learned how to say more things, all of them important, but still behind the always useful “no”. For example, “agua” (water), which I’ve learned in Spanish, or “papa” (daddy), which I use if I want to say hi daddy, this is daddy’s, where is daddy, I want to go with daddy, and more, “bye”, which I know in English and now is my preferred word, “tibi”, which I have made up and means take it or give it to me, depending on the situation, “go”, which works better if you repeat it: go, go, go, go, go, or “guau”, which is the way I call dogs.

Todos los meses papá me mide y me pesa para comprobar cómo estoy creciendo, pero la medida de los 18 meses era importante porque según la abuela Chela, puede usarse como indicador de mi estatura adulta. Pues medí 85 cm, lo que siempre según la teoría de la abuela, implica que mediré 1.70 cuando sea mayor. Papá cree que voy a ser más alta y pronostica 1.75 a 1.78, porque dice que tengo que ser más alta que mamá. Sólo el tiempo dirá.

Every month daddy measures my height and my weight to check out how I am growing, but the 18th month measure was important because according to Grandma Chela, it could be used as an indicator of my adult height. I was 2’9 ½” tall, which using grandma’s formula, implies that I will be 5’7” when I grow up. Daddy believes that I will be taller than that and is forecasting 5’9 to 5’10, because he says that I have to be taller than mommy. Only time will tell.

Los abuelos estuvieron varias semanas y muchos días me saltaba la guardería para estar con ellos, ver un rato el cantajuego e ir a dar paseos por el barrio. Ahora ya han regresado a España y hemos vuelto a la rutina, pero todavía veo el cantajuego con mis papás y cuando hablo con los abuelos en el Skype me cantan el “envolviendo”, que es la canción que mejor me he aprendido.

Grandpa and Grandma stayed for a few weeks and many days I skipped daycare to be with them, watch cantajuego and go for a walk around the neighbourhood. Now that they are back in Spain we have returned to our routine, but I still watch cantajuego with my parents and when I talk to Grandpa and Granma in Skype they sing to me “envolviendo” (wrapping), which is the song that I know the best.

No quiero caminar / I don’t want to walk

Ahora mamá se arrepiente de aquellos días en los que me ponía boca abajo para que gateara. Aprendí tan bien que ahora no tengo interés en caminar. No es que no pueda, sino que hay maneras más eficientes de moverse cuando tienes quince meses.

Now mommy regrets those days when she placed me face down so that I learned how to crawl. I learned so well that I don’t have any interest in walking anymore. It is not that I cannot walk, but the fact that there are more efficient ways to move around when you are fifteen months old.

El invierno se ha pasado deprisa. Las semanas pasan volando cuando vas todos los días a la guardería y vuelves a casa con el tiempo justo para tomar un baño, cenar, jugar un poco, e ir a la cama. A veces estoy tan ocupada que tengo que hacer unas llamadas desde la bañera.

The winter has gone by quickly. Weeks fly by when you go to daycare every day and you get back home with little time to take a bath, have dinner, play a bit, and go to bed. Sometimes I’m so busy that I have to make some calls from the bathtub.



Me gusta hablar por teléfono. De hecho cualquier objeto que me pueda llevar a la oreja me sirve de teléfono estos días: un bloque de madera, el mando a distancia de la tele, la funda de la Blackberry de papá, o la misma Blackberry.

I like to talk on the phone. In fact, anything that I can bring to my ear makes for a good telephone these days: a wooden block, the TV remote, daddy’s Blackberry holster, or the actual Blackberry.

Yo me explico bien pero papá y mamá dicen que no me entienden. Será que no saben inglés. Por suerte sí entienden cuando digo “no”, porque aunque lo digo en inglés, es suficientemente parecido en español. Y menos mal, porque “no” es la palabra más importante para obtener un poco de respeto.

I explain myself very well but daddy and mommy say that they don’t understand what I say. It must be that they don’t speak in English. Fortunately, they do understand when I say “no”, because even though I say it in English, it is close enough in Spanish. And thanks goodness, because “no” is the most important word to get a little bit of respect.

Me gusta comer. Me gustaba antes y ahora que como más cosas me gusta más. Mamá me hace comidas muy ricas y vamos a restaurantes, y mis papás me dejan comer lo que comen ellos. Pero lo que más me gusta es comer yo sola, sobre todo ahora que he aprendido a usar la cuchara.

I like to eat. I used to like it and now that I eat more things I like it even more. Mommy cooks yummy meals and we go to restaurants, and my parents let me eat the same things they eat. But what I like the most is to eat by myself, more so now that I have learned how to use the spoon.



Y después de comer hay que lavarse los dientes.

And after eating don’t forget to brush your teeth.

Ahora que la nieve se está derritiendo afuera y se puede andar por la calle es posible que me piense dos veces lo de caminar. Es divertido gatear en casa, en las tiendas, sobre hielo, o subir escaleras, pero mis papás no me dejan gatear cuando paseamos por la calle, así que puede que ya sea hora de empezar a practicar.

Now that the snow is melting out there and you can stroll around outdoors it is possible that I think twice about walking. It is fun to crawl at home, in the stores, on ice, or climb the stairs, but my parents don’t allow me to crawl on the street, so it may be time to start practicing.

Adiós 2010 / Bye bye 2010

Casi sin darme cuenta ha pasado ya un año desde que os felicitaba a todos el año nuevo, pero ahora tengo una idea más concreta sobre lo que representa un año: 25 cm más de altura, doble de peso, cientos de nuevos conocidos, y más kilómetros en la maleta que si hubiera dado la vuelta al mundo.

Almost without noticing it has been a year since I wished you all a Happy New Year, but now I have a better idea of what a year represents: 10 more inches high, my weight doubled, hundreds of new acquaintances, and more miles on the suitcase than if I had travelled around the world.

Bueno, puede que este no haya sido un año como otro cualquiera, pero sí suficiente para darme cuenta de todo lo que se puede hacer en 365 días.

Well, this may not have been a year like any other, but it was enough to realize everything you can do in 365 days.

Hablando de viajes, acabamos de volver de visitar a la tía Mónica, que era la única tía que aún no conocía. Ella vive en Davis, California, y hemos pasado unos días con ella y el tío Tom, conociendo sitios como San Francisco y el Valle de Napa.

Speaking of travels, we have just returned from visiting Aunt Monica, who was the only aunt I had never met. She lives in Davis, California, and we have spent some days with her and Uncle Tom, getting to know places such as San Francisco or Napa Valley.

Para celebrar la Navidad habíamos alquilado una cabaña en el Lago Tahoe, que es como el lago de Toronto pero en las montañas. Estaba bonito y había nieve, y la tía Mónica y el tío Tom parecían los niños pequeños, no yo, jugando a hacer muñecos y tirar bolas. Se nota que no viven en Canadá.

We had rented a cabin by Lake Tahoe to celebrate Christmas, which is like the lake we have in Toronto but by the mountains. It was beautiful and there was snow, and Aunt Monica and Uncle Tom seemed to be the kids, not me, trying to build a snowman and throwing snow balls. You can tell they don’t live in Canada.

Ya estamos de vuelta y yo he regresado a la guardería. Ya llevo yendo casi dos meses y me lo paso muy bien. Voy tres días a la semana a una que está en la oficina de papá y dos a otra que está cerca de donde vivimos, en casa de la señora Rose.

Now we are back home and I have returned to daycare. I have been going for almost two months already and I have a great time there. I go three days a week to a daycare at daddy’s office and the other two to Mrs. Rose’s home care, close to where we live.

Me gusta más la guardería del trabajo de papá porque hay más niños y más juguetes, pero aprendo cosas en los dos sitios y sé que así es más fácil para mis papás organizarse.

I like it better in daddy’s office daycare because there are more kids and toys to play with, but I learn things in both places and I know that it is easier for my parents to get organized this way.

En un año he aprendido un montón de cosas. Hace unas semanas mi especialidad era desordenar: cajones, estanterías, cualquier cosa. Papá siempre venía detrás y ordenaba todo, y así yo podía volver a desordenar otra vez.

In one year I have learned a lot of things. A few weeks ago my specialty was to mess things up: drawers, shelves, anything. Daddy came always behind sorting everything out, so that I could start making everything untidy again.

Ahora he aprendido a ordenar también. No como papá, pero a mi manera. Me gusta coger lo que antes estaba en un cajón y ponerlo en una estantería, y lo que estaba en la estantería en la papelera, y quitarle las zapatillas a mamá y ponerlas en un cajón. Yo quiero ayudar, pero parece que papá tiene más trabajo ahora.

Now I have learned how to tidy up as well. Not how daddy does though, but my own way. I like to take things from a drawer and put them on a shelf, things from shelf can go to the wastepaper basket, and mommy’s sleepers can go to the drawer. I want to help, but it looks as though daddy has more work to do now.

Mamá se había rendido con los intentos para que aprendiera a gatear, pero al empezar la guardería descubrí que es la forma más rápida de moverme. Soy capaz de recorrer una habitación en menos de 10 segundos, así que ahora, aunque puedo sujetarme de pie, no tengo ningún interés en caminar.

Mommy had given up trying to teach me how to crawl, but when I started at daycare I found out that it is the fastest way to move around. I am able to go across a room in less than 10 seconds, so now, even though I can stand up, I don’t have any interest in walking.

Además de desplazarme con velocidad, al pasar más tiempo con niños he hecho progresos con el inglés, como puede verse en este vídeo.

Besides moving fast, because I spend more time with kids I have made progress with my English skills, as you can see in this video clip.



Lo que os decía, que un año da para mucho, incluso para elegir mis dos canciones preferidas de 2010 (no son realmente de este año, pero es cuando las he conocido): ”Elmo song”, cantada por Elmo y sus amigos, y “1, 2, 3, 4”, cantada por Feist en Barrio Sésamo. Se admiten sugerencias para 2011.

As I’ve said, one year is long enough for much, even to choose my two favourite 2010 songs (not really created this year but I´ve gotten to know them in 2010): “Elmo Song”, sung by Elmo and friends, and “1, 2, 3, 4” sung by Feist in Sesame Street. I’m open to suggestions for 2011.

Mi primer cumpleaños / My first birthday

Ayer fue mi cumpleaños. No me enteré muy bien de lo que pasaba, pero mamá había comprado globos, y tarta, y un montón de cosas con el número uno. Todavía no sé lo que es el número uno, así que yo hice como si lo supiera y lo pasé bien como todos los días.

Yesterday was my birthday. I did not grasp very well what was going on, but mommy had bought balloons and a cake, and many things with the number one on them. I don’t know what the number one is yet, so I made as though I did and I had fun like any other day.

Por la mañana la tía Sonia había venido a felicitarme y nos fuimos a un sitio donde había un ratón gordo feo que me hacía llorar, aunque al primo Anthony le daba igual. Mira las fotos.

In the morning Aunt Sonia had come to wish me happy birthday and we went to a place where there was an ugly fat mouse that made me cry, though Cousin Anthony did not care. Check out the pics.

Y por la noche cuando llegó papá lo seguimos celebrando. Recibí paquetes con juguetes, un abrigo, unas botas, y además me llegaron regalos de los tíos y los abuelos. No sé, fue toda una sorpresa y puede que algún día piense lo contrario, pero por ahora me gusta esto de cumplir años.

And at night when daddy came back from work we continued celebrating it. I received wrapped boxes with toys, a coat, a pair of boots, and besides I received parcels with gifts from my uncles, aunts and grandparents. I don’t know, it was a great surprise and someday I may think differently, but for now I like having birthdays.

Halloween y la Abuela Chela / Halloween and Grandma Chela

Justo después de volver de España la abuela Chela vino a pasar dos semanas con nosotros, lo que me vino bien para hacer más fácil el cambio después de muchos días recibiendo mimos de tanta gente.

Right after we came back from Spain Grandma Chela arrived to spend two weeks with us, which came handy to make it easier the transition after many days being pampered by so many people.

Fuimos a un montón de sitios, aunque como estaba empezando a hacer frío no podíamos pasar mucho rato en la calle. Nos fuimos a comer, a comprar, a hacer turismo, y también ayudamos a papá a recoger las hojas del jardín, porque a los árboles les dio por tirar las hojas así de repente.

We went to a lot of places, though given that it was starting to get cold we could not spend much time outdoors. We went dinning, shopping and sight-seeing, and we also helped daddy pick up the leaves in the garden, because the trees started to drop the leaves all of the sudden.

Cada vez me gusta más la música. Me encantan los juguetes que tienen música y no me canso de escucharla una y otra vez. La abuela Chela acertó de pleno y me trajo cuatro CDs con canciones que mamá dice que son típicas para los niños de Perú, y nos pasábamos el día escuchándolos.

I like music more and more every day. I love toys that play music and I don’t get tired of listening to it again and again. Grandma Chela hit the mark because she brought four CDs with songs that mommy says are typical for children in Peru, and we spent the entire day listening to them.

Un día fuimos a comprar una calabaza para Halloween. A mí me hacía gracia lo de la calabaza pero no entendía muy bien qué íbamos a hacer con ella. Luego vi a papá haciéndole agujeros con un cuchillo, lo que tampoco entendía muy bien.

One day we went to buy a pumpkin for Halloween. I thought it was funny but I did not understand very well what we would do with a pumpkin. Then I saw daddy carving it out with a knife, but I did not understand it either.

Y entonces, cuando se hizo de noche, papá encendió una vela y la calabaza se reía. Y mamá me puso un vestido y un sombrero, que yo me quitaba todo el rato, hasta que vi que ella también tenía un sombrero y las dos íbamos a juego.

And then, right after dusk, daddy lit a candle and the pumpkin started to laugh. And mommy dressed me with a costume and a hat, which I took off all the time, until I saw that she also had a hat and both our outfits matched.

Y poco después empezó a sonar el timbre y venían niños del barrio vestidos con disfraces y mamá les daba caramelos y chocolates, y mamá era tan generosa que cada vez llegaban más niños, y al final se nos acabaron hasta los bombones de la reserva.

And soon after, the doorbell started to ring and children from the neighbourhood arrived dressed up with costumes and mommy gave them candy and chocolates, and mommy was so generous that more and more children came in, and at the end we even run out of backup chocolates.

Al día siguiente las ardillas se comían la calabaza en el jardín e imagino que en muchas casas había niños comiendo caramelos y bombones. Quizá el año que viene yo también lo haré.

The following day the squirrels ate the pumpkin in the garden and I imagine that in many homes there were children eating candy and chocolates. Maybe next year I’ll do so too.
